Aluminium... On the ground and in the sky!
As part of the CanadIan International Aluminium Conference (CIAC), the Quebec Metal Transformers' Association organized two inspiring and iconic industrial visits of manufacturing know-how.
First, the assembly line of Chalenger Bombardier Aerospace where we landed on a grandiose impressive white floor ... a space where planes are built... lots of planes...
During our visit, we saw at least 30 aircrafts in various stages of fabrication, starting from the dressing of the wings all the way to the installation of cabin exotic wood panels. These were not ordinary aircrafts... these were private jets... a place where luxury meets technology! A place where aluminium plays an important role.
This first visit was followed by another to AV&R Aerospace, a manufacturer of robotic systems. AV&R specializes in advanced manufacturing tools that finish metal parts by sanding, polishing and deburring: finishing metal with such precision and accuracy, that only a robot can provide.
During the day, thirty foreign and local entrepreneurs had the chance to discuss with our hosts and learn about their process, their technological advancements and their vision of the industry. Between the two visits, participants were also able to walk through the exhibition organized as part of the CIAC. All agreed that these visits demonstrated the level of excellence and know-how of Quebec manufacturers and the importance of reaching out for new ideas & technology to other innovative companies, big or small.

ALUMINIUM: THE GAME CHANGER!
A conference on innovation, a world-class exhibition!
The Aluminium Association of Canada (AAC) and its members, Alcoa, Aluminerie Alouette and Rio Tinto Alcan, will host the first Canadian International Aluminium Conference (CIAC) from October 21 to 24, 2013, in Canada, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. With its forward looking program under the theme "Aluminium: the game changer", the CIAC is a unique opportunity for representatives of major companies and organizations in the international aluminium industry to come together and discuss leading edge issues and challenges they will be facing over the coming years.
The CIAC will also be the host of a world-class exhibition bringing together under one roof local, national and international exhibitors. The exhibition will create a platform to discuss and explore the latest developments and forward looking applications.
- With an expected 800 participants, the CIAC is a high-profile international event highlighting aluminium and its uses.
- The CIAC will provide participants with a real idea of where they stand in their different sectors and a unique platform for business development and networking.
- The CIAC will position aluminium as a metal of the future.
- One hundred world-class guest speakers will give presentations at the CIAC, which will also feature roundtables and industry sector workshops.
- Held in Montreal, Canada, the CIAC will receive major international media coverage and will draw important economic players, researchers and government representatives from around the world.
The CIAC will be the flagship of a week-long series of international conferences with major events, all related to aluminium.
AluSolutions 2013 is a conference based on world-class best practices in the areas of primary aluminium production and the environment.
INALCO is a science based research group hosting its 12th International Aluminium Conference, INALCO 2013.
Mission Design aims to stimulate economic development through quality design in Quebec as well as anticipate major global trends in architecture, design and urban planning at national and international levels.
Recyc-Québec, Quebec's foremost authority on residual matters, will cover aluminium's end of life and recyclability issues through a series of presentations and panelists.
